Rye Creative Centre

One of the sites proposed for housing is the former Freda Gardham School site on New Road which now houses the Rye Creative Centre. This is an allocated site, a site that has been identified as suitable for housing by the local authority, and Martello is preparing an application to build on this site.

This does of course mean that the artists at the Creative Centre will need to find a new home but Martello are keen to explore options. Our second engagement event will be held on Friday 29th November at the Creative Centre and is specifically so that we can brief the artists on the proposals.

The Harbour Road proposal would include a brand new, purpose built creative centre with an on site café, landscaped area for the artists to enjoy and the new centre would border onto  a nature reserve.

Martello hope to get the Harbour Road application approved so that they can provide 40% affordable housing on that site, donate much of the land to the community as a nature reserve and build brand new, fit for purpose artists studios.
